Music Field Trip

I was recently made aware of an amazing opportunity for our students and I’m so excited to share it with you!

The Kansas City Orchestra often plays concerts for students.  On April 22nd, however, they will present a concert in which our students can play recorders and participate WITH the Orchestra!

The cost for all students (and adults) for this trip is $5 per ticket. That cost will include a recorder for each student and a workbook, as well as the concert. The adult cost covers the event only.  Students will learn during third quarter music classes how to play recorders in preparation for this event.

Students should bring their $5 directly to their classroom teachers and the teachers will pass it along to me. All money (including adult tickets) should be paid by Wednesday, December 4th.

I so wish we had known about this opportunity earlier so that we could have planned accordingly, but I hope you’ll agree that this will be a very fun experience for our kids.  Thanks so much for your patience with me!

Feel free to email me directly at bbayless@grainvalley.k12.mo.us with any questions.

Thank you!

Mid-terms went home on Friday.

Currently we are working on writing personal narratives. Students are working on narrowing topics and drafting their stories. We will be focusing on show not tell details in a story. In reading we are working on asking questions and making predictions based on evidence from the text that is sited in their response in their notebooks. In social studies we are working on reading and understanding maps. In math we are working on addition, subtraction with borrowing, word problems, and rounding.

What students are reading at home, they can also be reading at school. This will help students focus on one book at a time and really get into the book.
